Furniture Collections

The Acadian Collection features pieces that are created based on traditional Louisiana Acadian Furniture indicated by their simplicity in design. Acadian Furniture was hand made by peasant farmers who arrived in Louisiana as refugees from Le Grand derangement with few possessions and little education. Their furniture was made from indigenous woods readily available, primarily Bald cypress,as well as Sycamore and Maple, Pecan, to be functional in their frontier setting and focal points in their modest homes. Although they settled along the Mississippi River area that was known as the Acadian coast in present St. Gabriel to St. Charles Parish across from Des Allemands, they eventually migrated west and south into Acadiana throughout the Atchafalya Basin all the way to Texas.

The Creole Collection features pieces that are created based on traditional Louisiana Creole Furniture design in the style of the French court of the day which was Louis XV. The Creole Furniture was hand made by Creole settlers living in Louisiana who were legally born into the French Colony under French Rule. They were highly educated , often abroad in Europe and they were upper class landed gentry. They were prosperous merchants and plantation owners, born in Louisiana territories. Creole is a cultural and legal term of birthright, not a racial description. Their furniture was made from indigenous woods readily available, primarily Bald Cypress, Pecan, Black Walnut, American Black Cherry, Tulip Poplar, Red Mulberry, Red Bay, Sycamore and also Mahogany and Spanish Cedar imported from the Caribbean. Made to be functional but also decorative in their frontier setting and focal points in their Upper class homes. Creoles settled along the Gulf Coast from Mobile Bay to Galveston, Texas and in New Orleans as well as throughout the Mississippi Valley.
