We have always offered repair and restoration services at Greg Arceneaux Cabinetmakers. After Katrina, there were so few people available who could offer restoration and repair services that we felt compelled to do even more to help our entire community to restore their heirlooms and their lives. In natural disasters, people are often so overwhelmed that they do not realize that their solid wood family heirlooms can be restored and unfortunately, they just throw them away. Many of our clients tell us that their pieces are now rehabilitated to a better condition than they were originally. We try as much as possible to retain the original structure and patina of the wood of each piece as we go through the restoration process of weather related damages to wood. As a result of our efforts post Katrina, we unexpectedly received a Katrina Bounce Back Award from The St. Tammany West Chamber of Commerce. In terms of wooden furniture, often the unexpected occurs. Chairs are the most used and abused pieces of furniture in the home. Guests may outweigh or misuse the structure and over time glue and joints may fail, parts get broken during Saints Game celebrations, and finishes can wear or be impacted by small children’s artistic expression.
